Ecological Actions: Talk with Jane Bennett and conversation with Emma Holten, Lars Tønder and Melissa Van Drie
We are happy to announce that Jane Bennett will be giving a talk and subsequent conversation in the Royal Danish Library, The Black Diamant. The world-leading political theorist Jane Bennett, author of Vibrant Matter and Influx/Effluxvisits UCPH’s Center for Applied Ecological Thinking to give a talk followed by a conversation with Emma Holten (activist and public speaker), Lars Tønder (Professor at the Department of Political Science) and Melissa Van Drie (Associated Professor at Center for Applied Ecological Thinking).
In her talk, Jane Bennett will develop a new model of ecological action. The talk will draw on Gustav Klee and Tim Ingold to think about lines and lures, and it will focus on how these figures subtly engage with people to direct their attention and action. Explicating the aesthetical dimensions of this engagement, including how it resists the usual narrative of mastery and superiority, the talk will contribute to a broader conversation about care and generosity towards the world around us, both.
