Transformative Talk: Makari - an attempt to accelerate green transition through finance

Makari talk

"Makari - popular anchoring of green transition" was a company name and a working thesis.

In 2020, there was increasing interest in green bonds in the financial sector. At the same time, Danes' cash savings as well as retail investors' interest in green investments had never been greater. But the supply of green investments at the time was of questionable "shades of green" and transparency was greatly lacking. In this talk Jacob reflects on the idea for the startup 'Makari,' what it was like to be an entrepreneur, and what hard lessons he took with him from the project.

Jacob Skou Lopez Gøtterup is an environmental engineer with a background as a consulting engineer (COWI 11 years), and later management (COWI + Copenhagen Municipality, 5 years combined), and as an entrepreneur in finance with "Makari" (3 years).

About the Transformative talks
We live in a time of crises, but also of possibilities. It calls for bold and progressive societal transformations that go beyond incrementalism and reliance on technological innovation alone. While there is no shortage of theoretical principles for transformation within academia, there is a scarcity of concrete examples and experiences on how one can enact transformation in practice. In the transformative talks series, we invite scholars, change makers, and thought leaders to share insights on the how of societal transformations and examples of transformations happening around us already today.
