Care - in what Universe?
Two-day conference
In the social and ecological crises of our times, the need for care is expanding, and the conditions of care are eroding. This closing conference of the OIKOS research project starts from this crisis of care, but understands that care takes many forms: care sustains our lives, as well as the forces of destruction, which generate care needs that need not be there.
If care is both a part of the solution and a part of the problem, we must explore its dialectical limits, contradictions, and potentialities. We do this across multiple contexts and formats, inviting both speakers and participants from academia, the arts, and activist worlds into conversation. What – and who – do we care for, at what cost, and under which conditions? And how might care be reimagined beyond the logics of planetary extraction and exhaustion that currently shape it?
